Drink is a short, narrative-driven top-down game about alcohol dependence, avoidance, and the moment of first accountability.

You play as Drink, a person moving through a small, indifferent world. Drinking helps in the short term. It restores what’s missing. It also makes things worse. The game does not offer recovery, redemption, or comfort. It ends where honesty begins.

The world reacts quietly to what you do. People notice. Doors close. Opportunities narrow. Progress is possible, but it’s uncomfortable.

This is not a power fantasy. You are not the hero.

The story then continues as a book - Sober

What to expect

  • A Zelda-like top-down structure with rooms, exploration, and boss encounters

  • A finite, uncomfortable economy with limited money and morally weighted choices

  • Drinking as a mechanical trade-off: short-term relief, long-term consequence

  • Sparse dialogue. One line at a time. Silence matters

  • A fixed ending focused on accountability, not recovery

The game is intentionally small and contained. There are no side quests to save you and no optimal path.

Content note

This game deals with themes of:

  • Alcohol dependence

  • Denial and rationalisation

  • Emotional avoidance

  • Shame and self-recognition

There is no graphic content and no moralising, but the subject matter may be uncomfortable for some players.

Current state

Drink is complete on Steam and the Google Play store. The build here on itch is an earlier version that is intended as a demo.

Controls

  • Move: WASD / Arrow keys

  • Interact: E

  • Drink: R

Why this exists

Drink was made to explore a narrow moment many stories skip:
not collapse, not recovery, just the quiet realisation that it’s you.
